DOS Makes Significant Progress After Software Crash Slows Visa Issuance

Last week the Department of State (DOS) issued an updated FAQ on the status of their visa issuing system outage stating that they had “made significant progress and issued most of the worldwide backlog of nonimmigrant visa cases.” The update comes just over three weeks after the DOS initially announced the system crash in their visa issuing database, also discussed in one of our previous posts. Although the visa issuing database has experienced outages in the past, the DOS states that this was the largest and most disruptive outage with the system offline for days. Now, sin embargo, the DOS states that most of the worldwide backlog of nonimmigrant visa cases have been issued. Should an applicant still be subject to delays, the DOS has provisions for emergency nonimmigrant visa cases. Please contact our office if any delays continue to cause you difficulties.
